Role Overview

Boom is seeking a Powerplant System Design Engineer to join our team. You will be working as part of the Powerplant System Team developing system architecture for the Overture aircraft. Work would be related to one or more of the following subsystems: Fire Protection, Oxygen, Environmental Controls, Liquid Cooling, Fuel, and/or Fuel Tank Inerting.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing powerplant related subsystems through requirements development, design, and verification activities including qualification and systems level testing
  • Define requirements and applicable design for subsystems to ensure compliance with 14CFR Part 25 regulatory certification requirements
  • Carry out trade studies of subsystems to identify the right solution for Overture.
  • Collaborate with other team members and suppliers throughout the Overture design, integration, and certification activities.
  • Collaborates with cross functional team(s) to develop and validate interface requirements
  • Provide input in identifying Aircraft and System FHAs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, mathematics, or physics with 5 or more years of experience in aerospace or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in the design, development, aircraft integration and certification of aircraft systems
  • Experience with performing calculations and analysis for trade studies and down selecting solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience in identifying technical requirements
  • Knowledge of FAA Part 23/25 regulatory requirements and Advisory Circulars related to associated aircraft systems
  • Experience creating 3D Catia models
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills,
  • The ability to interface and communicate effectively with different groups and levels of leadership internally and externally
  • Superb organizational skills and acute attention to detail

Highly Desirable

  • Advanced surface lofting experience with CATIA
  • Experience with environmental qualification per DO-160
  • Experience on at least one aircraft program from initial concept through flight and certification
  • Experience with aircraft system safety processes and documentation (FHA/PASA/SSA)
  • Coordination with suppliers from development phase to equipment qualification and certification
  • Willingness to investigates new/emerging technologies for application on the Overture
  • Experience with development of supersonic aircraft technologies
  • Experience with electrical ECS Systems
  • Experience with Liquid Cooling Systems (LCS)

Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $102,000 - $138,000. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
